Kushehnooney- band bio.

Kushehnooney started out in the early years of the nineteen nineties. As with any band the name came later the music came first.

Aeysh, Bogu Ishan, Zia, Andhu, Ishantey coughed up the 50 rufias per hour rent for Tharaboozuge practice room.

Over the years, with many line-up changes, studios, jail sentences, wives kids, the current lineup of Ablo Arif, Zia, Andhu, Ishantey and Ahmed Jones found time to get together in Zia’s Bedroom/Studio. The First album Furolhu was recorded in in-between 2000 and 2001. Furolhu is a collection of tracks old and new, that were composed through out the 15 odd years that the band has been together.

Esjehi Gallery 1993 midday assembled for practice. Milling about by the front porch trying to think of a name for the band. An invitation to play at the THAANA SHOW. We were to be the support act for the main event – Anneh Vaththaru Fani (the boys from UK) and Zero degree atoll (the boy wonders from Male’).

Nobody was being convinced by the stuff that was being bandied about. Zia Abbas - veteran guitarist for No Limit , with a recent bust for Marijuana just back from banishment to an island, Aish – of Hathihaa, vocals and writer, former employee of the foreign ministry, having followed zia into incarceration, Mohamed Ishan – Drums , on holidays from studyi6ng architecture in Manchester <England, armed with a vague memory of a couple of drum lessons while at school, Andhu – although younger than the rest already a minor celebrity on th6e Male’ scene having brought out Psychocandy with Easa and Bogu Isantey earlier, Andi – kashimaavilaa, no relation to kashimaa Shakir, on Bass, never having played before, but for this band.

It was Andi who came up with “kushehnooney” in response to another provocative suggestion that we knew was not going to be passed by whoever might approve these sorts of things.
